Dessert

Ok, so there’s no toasting of marshmallows in most of Tasmania due to most of our parks being fuel stove only, but that doesn’t mean you cant enjoy a sweet treat at the end of the day!

Below are a few of the way I satisfy my craving for sweet things on trail.

The sweet stuff.

  • Dark Chocolate.

Any sort of chocolate will do but for me I love salted dark chocolate. I pair it with a coffee and I am in heaven. During the summer months when chocolate easily melts I take peanut M&M’s as they don’t create a melted mess!

  • Apple Crumble & Custard.

One of my favorite deserts and so easy to prepare. Simply dehydrate a can of pie apple. At camp rehydrate the apple with hot water (it only takes a few minutes) and then sprinkle over your choice of biscuit. I break up Ginger Nut biscuits but any hard biscuit will do. Top it off with some custard (hot or cold) made from instant powder. Yum!

  • Dried fruit & cheese.

My equivalent of a cheese platter. A few slices of dried apricot or mango, some cheese, a handful of nuts and some crackers. A lovely cup of tea to compliment the treat.

  • Cake.

Muffins, slices and pieces of cake make great deserts. The tend to travel well, last for quiet a few days and are a lovely way to finish the day with a hot cuppa.

  • Tapioca Pudding.

I make a Mango Tapioca pudding that is a dream for desert out on trail in winter. Steamy and hot and sweet. Packed full of goodness and totally addictive. Tapioca is a great option for a hot desert during winter.

  • Commercial Deserts.

A lot of commercial brands make desert options. Other than a few chocolate mousses I haven’t yet found one that I love as much as a home made desert. If you know of one that is good i would love you to send it my way!
