Weather.

Rain, rain, go away, come back another day!

One of the most important parts of planning a safe trip is checking what is going to be happening weather wise. Bad weather (rain, hail, snow, heat) doesn’t mean you don’t have to go walking. It does mean that your preparation is different. The gear you pack for a snow trip might be completely different to your 40 degree summer trip. Below are the two main weather Apps I use. I also use BOM but to tell you the truth YR Weather seems to get it right when BOM doesn’t! And given its Norwegian that is saying something!

The sun will come out tomorrow…

  • YR.No Weather

For a Norwegian site YR.No are spot on! Very rarely if ever have they been wrong! I love that you can expand tables to get as much or as little info as you like. You can customise the app to what you want to see. Like most weather Apps it doesn’t work offline. My first pick every time.

  • Willy Weather

Willy Weather is my second choice for weather information. I don’t find it as user friendly as YR.No but it is for the most part pretty accurate.

  • InReach

I use my Garmin InReach Explorer 66i to get up to date weather news whilst in the bush. Obviously being a satellite navigator it doesn’t rely on reception to give me the latest weather.

Whatever you use to track the weather is personal preference. What is important is that you do track the weather as part of any trip planning and preparation.
